RSA’s ImpactVDP variable data printing module already lets print businesses flex their creativity — no coding required. Streamlined and easy to use, it creates press-ready imposed PDF outputs and automates data-driven VDP production.
Now, with the release of ImpactVDP v5, RSA has extended our ImpactVDP offerings even further — giving print businesses more functionality at their fingertips. It offers a more robust feature set designed to meet the needs of print centers today, enhancing creativity, adding flexibility, and creating a better customer experience overall.
Here are some of the fresh features you can expect in the new release.
Remote Repository Integration
With ImpactVDP’s new remote repository integration, users will be able to pull images — both static and dynamic — from online URL sources. This new feature can be used with Digital Asset Managed (DAM) images and logos, as well as with online content such as maps, weather, and other active content. Changing the asset in the DAM or URL components will pull the latest content each time the template is configured.
This feature has a wide range of applications in education, real estate, government, marketing, and more. For instance:
- Pulling photos when an ID is entered
- Generating maps in real time for events and postcards
Complex Barcode Formatting Support
Users generating barcode output are now able to add formatting that combines multiple variable data values and text. For instance, a QR Code can support contact cards, meetings, WiFi setups, events, phone and email contact information, directions, and more. Other uses of 2-D barcode applications may include concert tickets, labels, and event badges.
“Controlled By” for Dropdowns
The new "controlled by" feature allows ImpactVDP customers to drive the automatic rendering of derivative text and images with a single selection. This convenience feature ensures customers don't have to make the same selection multiple times. Any type of dropdown can be linked to any number of derivative fields and values. Derivative text and images are only shown in the resulting composition. Some possible applications of this feature include:
- Setting a logo based on a company or school name as well as the address and phone number
- Adding spaces to separate text based on another selection (for example, having optional phone numbers on the same line on a business card)
Date Selector Enhancements
In this newest release, RSA has added support for the selection of time and additional date formats. It also supports a “controlled by” feature to automatically configure additional date fields with different date and time components from a single entry.
“Controlled By” for Dates
New functionality means ImpactVDP designers can now configure multiple data fields that represent individual components of a date using a “controlled by” setting. For example, when a user selects a date/time while configuring a template, multiple data fields can be automatically updated to represent individual components for the year, month, or day in any number of date formats. The “controlled” date entry fields are hidden from the user but can be used in the template to represent individual date components. This feature may be used for:
- Setting an event date, then using the year and day in different formats in different places
- Supporting the specific date/time format required by QR Code event formats
Additional Enhancements
That’s just the start of the enhancements ImpactVDP v5 offers. The new release has additional features as well, including:
- A WebCRD address book/global address book
- Per-Record vs global graphic upload toggle
- A numeric field restriction with minimum/maximum limits
- An order quantity field driven by WebCRD catalog configuration
- Proof file watermark support
- Text input handling, with improved multi-line and word wrapping character limits
